While I’ve been writing on Substack for a couple of years, it continues to introduce some impressive product improvements. As such, you’ll see me experimenting with these new tools to figure out the best ways to interact with other readers and writers obsessed with France. My hope is to create engaging conversations without overwhelming people with notifications and spam and other junk.
This past week, I’ve been testing one of those new features called Substack Notes. Please consider connecting with me there.
Notes is a bit like a more intimate version of Twitter that lets you follow and discover different Substack writers and readers. This was my latest post to Notes:
But there is also Substack Chat…
I’ve only tested this a little bit. Chat is more of a conversation between a specific writer and the writer’s audience. I can see using this to discuss a big news story or create a kind of forum around an interesting topic. You can see (and still join!) my first chat here:
For both of these features, it helps to download the Substack app, but both are also accessible via the desktop. In either case, you can read newsletters directly in the app, or save them for later.
As for Notes, here’s more detail from Substack on how to get started….
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to French Crossroads, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of French Crossroads can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated!
