Weekend French Playlist #10
Featuring Pi Ja Ma (aka Pauline de Tarragon and Axel Concato), St Graal, and Johnny Jane.
It being the weekend once again, we find ourselves basking in what the French call the beau temps, that moment when the weather falls in that sweet spot of being sunny and warm but not scorching and oppressive. In other words, Goldilocks, it’s not too hot, not too cold, but just right.
So, here’s a Spotify playlist of some new releases along with a few favorites thrown in for fun and a couple of videos.
Among the highlights this week are selections from the new EP by St Graal (which is how one says Holy Grail in French). This indy artist had a hit in 2021 with the single Les Dauphins but still hasn’t released a full proper LP. But the EP includes that single along with a few other new titles. There are also songs from Johnny Jane who released an EP DÉSORDRES in March and Zed Yun Pavorotti and his April 2023 album Encore.
Finally, we have the whimsy of Pi Ja Ma (the duo of Pauline de Tarragon and Axel Concato). Tarragon made her public debut on TV as a teenager on la Nouvelle Star show. More recently, she teamed up with Concato and released their first album, Nice To Meet U, in 2019. Their follow up Seules Sous Ma Frange (Alone Under My Bangs) was released in 2022, and an extended version came out earlier this year.
The latter includes their take on life in America.
Enjoy!
